Sources: Eagles trade for Michael Bennett…Bulls reminded about rest rules…Brunson, Mack, Spellman win Big East honors

UNDATED (AP) — The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles have acquired three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett from the Seattle Seahawks, according to three people familiar with the trade. They tell the Associated Press that Seattle will get wide receiver Marcus Johnson and a fifth-round pick, while Philadelphia also receives a seventh-round pick. The deal won’t be officially announced until the NFL’s league year opens next Wednesday.

UNDATED (AP) — A person familiar with the settlement tells The Associated Press that Jerry Jones has agreed to pay the NFL more than $2 million in legal fees resulting from two disputes the Dallas Cowboys owner had with the league. Commissioner Roger Goodell assessed the financial penalties for Jones’ lawsuit to overturn the suspension of Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliott, and for a lawsuit Jones threatened to stop Goodell’s newly approved contract.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Bulls say they’ll start playing Robin Lopez and Justin Holiday again after receiving a reminder from the league about player rest and tanking. NBA owners passed rules in September designed to prevent healthy players from sitting out games, and teams from losing on purpose to improve their draft position. Holiday is back in the lineup for tonight’s game against Memphis after missing five of the last six, while Lopez is sitting out his seventh straight game. Both are expected to start Friday at Detroit.

NEW YORK (AP) — Villanova point guard Jalen Brunson, Xavier coach Chris Mack and Villanova freshman Omari Spellman are the Big East award winners in voting by conference coaches. Brunson is the third Wildcat guard in the last four seasons to earn Big East Player of the Year honors. Mack directed Xavier to its first Big East regular-season title with a 15-3 league record and a 27-4 overall mark. Spellman is the Big East’s top freshman scorer with a 10.9 average.

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays intend to use a four-man pitching rotation this season, while filling a fifth starter’s role with a combination of multi-inning relievers. Manager Kevin Cash delivered the surprising news today, saying the club feels it has enough pitching depth to make the plan work long-term. The projected rotation currently features Chris Archer, Nathan Eovaldi, Blake Snell and Jake Faria.
