Peters carries Nicholls to 73-70 win over Northwestern St.

NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Roddy Peters scored 32 points — 14 in the final 4:21 — and his free throw with two seconds left helped Nicholls to a 73-70 win over upset-minded Northwestern State on Wednesday night.

The win gives Nicholls a double bye in the Southland Conference Tournament. The Colonels have won eight straight and are 13-1 in their last 14 games.

Peters shot 9 of 12 from the field and 14 of 20 from the foul line and scored all the Colonels (21-9, 15-2) points down the stretch. Czar Perry missed a desperation 3-point heave to end it.

Ishmael Lane’s 3 with 2:03 left gave Northwestern State (4-24, 1-16) its last lead of the game, 68-66, with 2:03 left. Peters made a pair of layups and 3 of 4 free throws in the final 1:44. Jahvaughn Powell scored 13 and Tevon Saddler added 12 for Nichols.

Lane and Perry each scored 16 and Larry Owens scored 10 for the Demons.
