LOGAN — After seven years, the Cache Employment and Training Center (CETC) has announced the end of “Bike With Brent.” The summer fundraiser with local celebrity Brent Carpenter had been held annually, promoting community awareness of people with disabilities.
CETC executive director Kae Lynn Beecher said the event had more than quadrupled in size since the first ride in 2011.
“There was about 250 people that first year,” said Beecher. “Over seven years it grew to 850 people, so amazing community support.”
Since the event started, it had grown from just the bike ride around the Cache County Fairgrounds, to a half-day of activities. It featured rock climbing walls, games, pie-eating contests, inflatables and obstacle courses. One of the highlights was a bike polo game between local fire fighters and law enforcement.
Beecher said it was a tough decision to end “Bike with Brent” but the training center felt the timing was right.
“We also had some of our committee members move out of town, which made things a little more difficult. So all of the things combined, made it the right time to go out on a high note and enjoy those memories.”
Years ago, the CETC helped Carpenter with work training and later helped him get a job at Utah State University. He is still seen throughout the valley riding his bike and waving to people.
