WINTER STORM WATCH

URGENT – WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

…Heavy snow possible Wednesday Afternoon through Thursday

Evening…

.A moist and slow moving storm system will envelop the region on

Wednesday and continue through Thursday evening. The Cascades and

the mountains of northeast Washington and north Idaho will

probably receive heavy snow accumulations making travel very

difficult across area passes. Precipitation in the valleys of

these regions will receive varying amounts of snow accumulation

and precipitation may fluctuate between rain and snow depending on

the time of day. Moderate to locally heavy snow accumulations are

possible in the valleys during the overnight and early morning

hours…while rain or mixed precipitation will turn snow into

heavy slush during the afternoons and early evenings making travel

difficult.

THURSDAY EVENING…

* WHAT…Heavy mountain snow and valley mixed precipitation

possible. Total snow accumulations of 4 to locally 10 inches in

the valleys, with mountain accumulations up to 3 feet.

* WHERE…Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, Priest River, Eastport,

Schweitzer Mountain Road, Colville, Northport, Deer Park,

Chewelah, Newport, Kettle Falls, Springdale-Hunters Road, Orin-

Rice Road, Flowery Trail Road, Republic, Inchelium, Wauconda,

Chesaw Road, Highway 20 Wauconda Summit, Boulder Creek Road,

Sherman Pass, Leavenworth, Mazama, Twisp, Winthrop, Stehekin,

Conconully, Blewett Pass, and Loup Loup Pass.

* WHEN…From Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Plan on difficult travel conditions.

Significant reductions in visibility are possible. Heavy wet

snow may break tree branches and lead to scattered power

outages.
