Garth scores 23, Lamar upsets SF Austin to complete sweep

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Nick Garth drained six from long range to total 23 points as Lamar upset Stephen F. Austin 71-66 on Saturday to complete its first season sweep of the Lumberjacks since the 2001-02 campaign.

Lamar (19-11, 11-6), which has won six of its last seven games, beat the Lumberjacks 76-54 in early February. The Cardinals also garnered their first win in Nacogdoches since the 2005-06 season.

The victory assures Lamar of the No. 6 seed into the Southland Conference Tournament with only a game at McNeese remaining to complete the regular season.

The Lumberjacks are battling Southeastern Louisiana for the No. 2 seed behind Nicholls. The top four teams earn a first-round bye with the top two resting until the semifinal round.

Joey Frenchwood scored five of his 13 points in the final 38 seconds to secure the victory. Zjori Bosha added 10 points with eight boards.

TJ Holyfield led five Lumberjacks in double figures with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Ivan Canete and Kevon Harris added 11 apiece for SFA (23-6, 12-4) which lost at home for the first time this season after winning 15 straight.
