Courtney Force breaks Funny Car track records in Arizona

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) — Courtney Force broke both ends of the Funny Car track record Saturday in the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

Force topped qualifying with a 3.826-second run at 335.98 mph during her second pass of the day.

“That last pass today was pretty incredible,” Force said. “We have run well here in the past and I’m excited to be back in that top spot. We are hoping to turn this consistency into a win, we just have to keep being consistent on race day.”

Tony Schumacher qualified No. 1 in Top Fuel, and Deric Kramer topped the Pro Stock field.

Schumacher had a 3.649 at 334.65 from the first qualifying session Friday. He also set the Top Fuel national speed record at 336.57 with a time of 3.667 seconds during his second pass Friday.

Brittany Force, Courtney’s sister and Funny Car great John Force’s daughter, qualifed 14th with a 3.828 at 253.52. The reigning Top Fuel season champion is returning for a wall-banging crash two weeks ago in the season-opening Winternationals in Pomona, California.

Kramer had a 6.522 at 210.80 during the final qualifying session.
