PYEONGCHANG, South Korea (AP) — The U.S. women’s hockey team has ended Canada’s run of Olympic gold medals, but it took a shootout to do it. Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scored in the first extra round of the first shootout tiebreaker in Olympic women’s hockey history to give the Americans the gold medal with a 3-2 victory over their arch-rivals. Canada had won the previous four gold-medal games since the United States took the title in 1998.
UNDATED (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays have traded All-Star designated hitter Corey Dickerson to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for relief pitcher Daniel Hudson, minor league infielder Tristan Gray and cash. The 28-year-old Dickerson was the AL’s starting DH in last summer’s All-Star game, but struggled at the plate the second half of the season. Hudson is a 30-year-old right-hander who went 2-7 with a 4.38 ERA in a career-high 71 appearances in 2017.
PEORIA (AP) — San Diego Padres manager Andy Green says newly acquired first baseman Eric Hosmer won’t play in at least the first two spring games. The Padres open their spring schedule against the Mariners on Friday before visiting the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. The Padres visit the Angels on Sunday. Hosmer agreed late Monday to a $144 million, eight-year contract.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Adam Vinatieri has signed a one-year contract extension with the Indianapolis Colts. And at 45, he could break the NFL’s career scoring record next season. Financial details were not immediately available, but he made $3 million last season. Vinatieri will again be the league’s oldest player. The kicker has 2,487 points and needs 58 to pass Morten Andersen. Vinatieri has played most of his career with the Colts.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The new head of USA Swimming has sent a letter to members of the national governing body saying the organization doesn’t tolerate sexual abuse or misconduct. The letter signed by president and CEO Tim Hinchey went out to member clubs and individuals today. This month, a former alleged that her former coach Sean Hutchison sexually abused her for a decade starting when she was a minor. Hutchison denies it.
