URGENT – WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

…POTENT WINTER STORM CONTINUES THROUGH TONIGHT…

.A strong winter storm will continue to affect the area today and

into tonight. Light to moderate snow will persist across much of

the area today, with the heavier snowfall generally to the south

and east of the Black Hills. South central South Dakota will see

the bulk of its snowfall late today and tonight. Snow will taper

off from west to east tonight, ending across south central South

Dakota by early Tuesday. Northerly winds of 10 to 20 mph will

produce some drifting of snow and patchy blowing snow.

Snowfall amounts so far across northeast Wyoming, the Black Hills

area, and much of southwest South Dakota have generally been in

the 4 to 8 inch range, with locally higher amounts likely.

Snowfall amounts taper off to the north across northwest South

Dakota and little or no snow has fallen so far across south

central South Dakota. Additional snowfall today and tonight will

generally be 3 to 6 inches, with some 6 to 9 inch amounts likely

from the Pine Ridge into south central South Dakota.

Arctic air over the area will also produce wind chills

of 10 below to 25 below zero today and tonight.

inches are expected through this evening.

including during the morning commute. Be prepared for

significant reductions in visibility at times. The cold wind

chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on

exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
