Local Democratic chair not optimistic Hatch will speak out in favor of ‘Dreamers"

LOGAN – Cache County Democratic Party Chairman Danny Beus said members of his party are happy that Republican Orrin Hatch decided against running for another term at the age of 80-plus, but he said age isn’t the problem. The problem was that he went along with President Donald Trump on almost every issue.

An issue Beus and Democrats are concerned about right now is the one involving so-called “Dreamers” – people who came to this country illegally with their parents, when they were young. Now they fear Trump will decide they should be deported.

He would like to see Hatch speak out against that, but doesn’t believe it will happen. Beus feels like it is a good time for Democrats to make change.

“We’re ready for any Republican who is going to run against a Democrat,” he said. ‘We think we have a good chance. Congress has proven to be inactive and not do anything. It’s important to get somebody in Washington that will do things.”

He said the time is ticking for the “dreamers” who need a great deal of support.
