Snowmobiler escapes Utah avalanche with minor injuries

LOGAN, Utah (AP) — The Utah Avalanche Center says a snowmobiler caught in an avalanche was relatively unharmed after family members were able to dig him out.

The Deseret News reports the Avalanche Center wrote on its website that the rider was with another snowmobiler when they triggered the slide in the Franklin Base area of Logan Canyon Tuesday.

The center says one of the men was able to evade the slide while the other was caught.

The man’s foot was pinned under the sled, and part of his head was sticking out of the snow.

The man’s brother, father and uncle dug him out in about 45 minutes.

The man sustained minor injuries, but his vehicle was severely damaged.
