LOGAN – A lot of people are surprised to see how much their power bills go up during the Christmas season. Logan City’s environmental coordinator Emily Malik said it is usually because so many Christmas lights are on for lengthy periods, both inside and outside.
Although they are beautiful, Malik said it does cost a lot of money. She said there are ways to save energy, which also means saving money.
“Using LED lights instead of incandescent lights and also connecting them to a timer,” she said, “so they are coming on at dusk and maybe going off at 11 at night. Turning them off at 10 or 11 instead of having them on all night long is going to save you a lot of money, too.”
Malik said she believes that by now most people have learned that in order to save energy it is important to use LED lights not just during the holidays, but all the time.
