LOGAN – At 4:01.25, All-American Dillon Maggard already has the fastest indoor mile time in school history, but the Utah State track star just added another record.

According to Citius Magazine, Maggard now holds the world record for the fastest mile ever recorded while wearing blue jeans. He set the record Monday at USU, just two days after placing sixth in the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Maggard finished his mile in 4:11.80, breaking the old record of 4:16.00 set by BYU’s Rory Linkletter.

The “Blue Jeans Mile” is a recently new challenge that requires a runner to run his or her fastest mile while wearing 100 percent cotton blue jeans. The challenge and rules were started by Citius in March.

In a social media video of the record-setting run, Maggard said it hurt to run in the pants, but that it felt great to break the record.

“It feels good,” he said. “Rory (Linkletter) set the bar pretty high, but I got it today.”

The competition may not be over for Maggard. Linkletter took to Twitter to congratulate and challenge Maggard.
