Green Canyon gets the win in school’s first basketball game

NORTH LOGAN – Green Canyon made its first ever boys basketball game look easy Wednesday night. Junior Carter Berish scored 29 points as he and his teammates repeatedly made shots from beyond the arc in the 69-41 home victory over the Ogden Tigers.

The Wolves made six 3-pointers to take a 22-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 42-15 with five more 3s in the second quarter.

“I loved the start we got off to,” head coach Dan McClure said. “Fun atmosphere, fun environment, fun way to play.”

Green Canyon started the second half on a 9-0 run, which finally ended with a Keon Berghout dunk. Berghout led the Tigers with 18 points.

Eight different Wolves combined to make 16 3s. Berish made five, Cake Henline made three, Jaxon Schenk and Kasen Holbrook made two each while Dewey Panter, Nate Corry, Carter Maughan and McKay Yorgason each added one.

McClure said his team demonstrated good teamwork.

“It’s a coach’s dream, but we have some really unselfish guys,” he said. “They want to play, they want to play the right way, and they realize they’re surrounded by good shooters and good players.”

Green Canyon will continue its season Thursday, Nov. 30 at Summit Academy.
