LOGAN – What is going to happen to the Emporium building in downtown Logan? That is a question a lot of people are asking now that Logan City has purchased the building, but there are apparently no plans for it at the present time.
Downtown Alliance Manager Gary Saxton said owners of downtown property have a lot of interest in what happens, not just for that building, but for the entire block. He said a group is working on a master plan.
“We are trying to address the bigger issue of a master plan for the entire block,” Saxton said. “If we can see what the full potential for commercial on that block can be, then we can do something along that line. So that is what we are working on right now is some concepts of a master plan for the entire block.”
Saxton said the whole two acres of property is owned by Logan City. He said the business community feels it would be advantageous to have it moved over to commercial ownership so it could be generating property tax in addition to sales tax revenue. Saxton said the group feels it would be good for developers to come in and that they might have some good ideas.
