Police looking for suspect who assaulted woman during ‘Halloween Prank’

LOGAN — Police are looking for a man who allegedly entered a woman’s apartment Halloween night and threatened her with a gun. The suspect then kissed her on the forehead, told her he was drunk and then left without further incident.

Logan City Police Capt. Curtis Hooley said police received a call from the victim around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night. The woman claimed she was in her apartment bedroom, near 800 N. 600 E., doing homework when the man walked in.

“He came to her and forced her into a corner,” explained Hooley. “He put his hand over her mouth, put the gun to her head and stated, ‘this is a joke, I’m drunk.’ He then kissed her on the forehead and left the area.”

The woman told officers the man entered the apartment through an unlocked door. He reportedly left without taking anything.

Hooley said the woman did not recognize the man, but was able to give a description of the suspect to investigators.

“The suspect is being described as a 6-foot tall male. He had a darker complexion, but she stated he was not African American. He had a dark, medium length beard. He was wearing a black bulky coat that had some sort of purple feature to it. He was wearing black leather gloves and he did not have a distinct accent.”

The woman was alone in the apartment at the time and no one else reportedly saw the suspect. She described the gun he was carrying as being black and silver in color.

Hooley said officers are concerned that if this was a prank, it was seriously disturbing to the victim.

“We want to know what the motivation was for doing this. If his intent was to assault, which he did, he certainly assaulted her. Putting a handgun to somebody’s head is an assault, but we would like to know what the motivation was, so we can have a better understanding of what the deal was with this case.”

Officers are asking anyone who may have seen the suspect to call police.
