LOGAN — A possible plea deal is being negotiated for a former Logan man accused of downloading child pornography. Jeffrey L. Detton is charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.

Detton appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. His public defender, Shannon Demler told the court he was looking into several programs to help his client, as they and the prosecutor work toward a possible resolution. The details of any plea agreement were not disclosed.

Court records show charges and an arrest warrant were filed against Detton in March 2015. The 30-year-old wasn’t arrested until August 1 when he was found living in Riverton.

On August 29, Detton waived his right to a preliminary hearing. He was later released from the Cache County Jail after posting $50,000 bail.

During Tuesday’s court appearance, Demler said now that Detton is out on bail they can move quicker towards a possible resolution. He asked the court to set another pretrial conference in a month.

Judge Brian Cannell scheduled Detton to return to court on November 7. He also ordered him to have no contact with the family he was staying with when the crimes allegedly occurred.
