LOGAN — A 19-year-old North Logan man who previously pleaded guilty to raping a teenage girl repeatedly is being sent to prison. Lucas Bennion was sentenced to two concurrent terms of six-years-to-life.
Bennion appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning after previously accepting a plea agreement, pleading guilty to aggravated sexual abuse of a child and rape, both first-degree felonies.
Bennion was arrested by North Park Police officers in May, after engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl. He also persuaded her into texting him inappropriate photos of herself. The crimes occurred between November and April of 2016. He later confessed to having sex with her at least 30 times.
Outside the courtroom, state attorney Jacob Gordon explained that he had asked the judge for a harsher sentence, two consecutive terms of 10-years-to-life. He admitted that the judge issued the lesser sentence probably due to Bennion’s young age.
