Deputies investigating shooting spree near Bear Lake

Deputies are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and two others injured, Sunday afternoon near Bear Lake. A press release from the Rich County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred at the Sweet Water Trailer Park in Garden City.

Emergency radio traffic, provided by Broadcastify, captured the moments after a 911 dispatch operator received a call, reporting a man with a shotgun was threatening his neighbors.

“All units available, please respond to 3079 Breaker Drive, Bear Lake trailer park, for a man with a gun, shooting into his neighbor’s house,” said the dispatch operator.”

Deputies from throughout the county responded to the scene with their guns drawn.

A deputy radioed minutes later that the suspected gunman had been shot and needed paramedics.

“He’s been shot,” the deputy said. “I think he shot himself. I need medical now.”

The sheriff’s press release stated the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 72-year-old man and 62-year-old woman were also shot, both in the abdomen. They were transported by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital.

Investigators have not released the identities of the victims or the gunman.

The family of the victims later released a statement, expressing thanks to friends and the community for their outpouring of love and support. It said the man and woman are being cared for and currently recovering.

It concluded saying, “we would like to thank law enforcement and the emergency responders who helped our family today. We ask that you please respect our privacy at this time.”

The State of Utah has sent a crime scene team to assist the sheriff’s office with their investigation.
