Highline Canal Trail festival will be fun and informative

It’s been a year now since the opening of the Highline Canal Trail and, according to Greg Merrill who is the chairman of the Cache County Council, it is time to celebrate the benefits of the trail which is located in the area of Northeast Logan above Lundstrom Park.

Merrill says the Highline Canal Trail Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, September 23rd at the Lundstrom Park Pavilion at 1600 East 1350 North in Logan.

He says there will be a 1 mile walk, a 5k fun run and also an interpretive walk for families.

“What that will entail is that kids with their families can walk along the trail,” Merrill explains. “There will be individuals along that trail that will focus on highlights of events or activities in that particular area.

“They’ll have a little booklet and with that booklet they can get the individual to mark it for them. As they go through and come back they will receive special trail pins for concluding that interpretive trail walk.”

There will be prizes along with donuts and drinks. Merrill says those participating, whatever the age, will hear about the interesting history of the Highline Canal and how it is saving, since it was restored, 2.5 billion gallons of water annually.
