ATV head-on crash kills Box Elder County man and injures 2 others

An ATV accident Saturday night killed a Box Elder County man and sent two other people to the hospital. The crash occurred in South Eden Canyon, east of Bear Lake.

Rich County Sheriff’s deputies report a large family was camping in the South Eden Campground at the time. As it started to get dark, the family became concerned for a group of riders who had been out on the trails and had not returned. Several family members went to search for the group.

A man and woman in a side-by-side were riding on a trail searching for the group when one of the late riders, a 46-year-old man on a dirt bike, traveled toward them. The side-by-side and the dirt bike collided, head-on. The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m.

The rider on the bike, Brad Williams was killed. The riders on the side-by-side, 37-year-old Shelby Secrist and 45-year-old Jerri Inman were also injured.

Secrist was flown by medical helicopter to an Ogden area hospital. Inman was transported by ambulance to a Logan area hospital.

Deputies report the crash is being investigated jointly by Utah State Parks and the Rich County Sheriff’s Office.
