LOGAN – Three different sites are currently being considered for the new Logan Library. At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Craig Petersen listed the potential sites as the “Army-Navy” building at 300 N. Main, the Emporium and the “V-1” site at the corner of 100 West and 100 South.
A public meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 17 where residents will have the chance to comment on the preferred sites. KVNU asked Logan mayoral candidates for their preferences.
Kyle Barney said he isn’t 100 percent sure the city needs a new library.
“If we are going to knock the building down anyway, then I don’t think that is the best location for it,” he said. “If we are going to build a completely new building I would like to see it located elsewhere, in more of a neighborhood setting. That being said, I think we need to take a look at revamping the current building, especially with budgetary pressures.”
Another candidate, Hayden Eugene Nielson, said it should remain where it is now.
“It’s been there for a long time,” he said. “It’s right next to the city offices so people can go to the city offices after the library. If they need to bring their kids to pay bills, they can go rent their literature.”
Nielson added that it may be wise to look into remodeling the existing library.
