Buttars still hoping for September opening for Mendon Road

Like he did when he appeared on KVNU’s For the People program during the County Hour in July, Cache County Executive Craig Buttars gave an update on Mendon Road (or 600 South in Logan) on Wednesday. The Logan to Mendon connection has been closed east of Mendon since Feburary when floodwaters damaged the road.

“I just came back from a little site visit out there. They have de-watered the site so that they can actually work and remove the old box culvert that’s there. They’re in the process of doing that. The new box culvert structure will be delivered next week,” explained Buttars.

“Steps are going to be taken to prepare the base right now for that new structure that will be put into place beginning next week, and it looks like we’re on track to have the road open at least by mid-September.”

He is still hopeful, though, that the road might be open before that. In highlighting how important the road is, Buttars said he received a call earlier this week from a Mendon woman who was concerned because officials had temporarily closed Highway 23 on both sides of town because of the Tour of Utah bike race. For a time there was no way out of Mendon because of the Mendon Road closure.
