Cache Valley’s newest high school, Green Canyon, is finishing up construction and will be opening within the next few months. The school will feature a new student body, new mascot, new school colors, and, with the public’s help, a new school song.
The Cache County School District announced on its Facebook page that it is sponsoring a community contest to write a school song for the new school. A cash prize may be awarded to the winning entry. The song should, “capture the spirit of the students and community that we will serve.”
The school is located in North Logan and its mascot will be the Wolves.
“We are looking for a song that is catchy, warm-hearted, dignified, timeless, and appealing to a wide audience,” the post states. “The text should convey the values of our school and community, including the idea of a wolf pack–we are stronger together, and the values of knowledge, friendship, and service.”
Besides providing an overall theme for the song, administrators are also outlining some details for the structure of the song. It should include one verse, one chorus and be written for voices and piano. They said that four-part hymn style is also appropriate. Administrators also reserve the right to alter or adapt the winning song.
Anyone who is interested in participating needs to email their completed entry to Karen Teuscher by June 30th. Her email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
