Possible plea deal coming in sexual assault trial for Dakota Knight

LOGAN — A 22-year-old Logan man is expected to plead guilty in the sexual assault of a woman in 2014.

Dakota Q. Knight appeared in 1st District Court Monday morning preparing for a three-day trial scheduled for the end of June. He is charged with forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony.

According to court records, defense attorney Wayne Caldwell asked the court to cancel the trial, and instead set a change of plea hearing where Knight is expected to accept a plea deal, pleading guilty to a lesser charge.

Knight is alleged to have assaulted the woman in October 2014. The defendant and victim were reportedly acquaintances at the time. He was later charged with forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony.

The case has been delayed several times after a private investigator, hired by the defense, retired suddenly and moved out of state.

Knight was ordered to appear again in court June 19.
