"What’s up, Chuck?" Hundreds flock to meet Chuck Norris

LOGAN – Chuck Norris didn’t come to Logan. Logan came to Chuck Norris.

The “Walker, Texas Ranger” star, martial arts master and subject of countless jokes and internet memes made a two-hour appearance at the Maverik gas station on 304 S Main Street on Wednesday, meeting hundreds of his fans.

The line to meet Norris stretched almost one-third of a mile around the city block. Two Ridgeline High students, Zac Butler and Ben Wagner, said they heard about the event at school and immediately left to see him.

“He is so huge in pop culture,” Wagner said. “Just to say that you met Chuck Norris, it’s insane.”

Both agreed the long wait in line was worth it.

“This is a lot more fun than my third hour,” Butler said.

Norris is in Utah to promote his new brand of bottled water, CFORCE Water. After visiting Cache Valley this morning, his next stops will be in Riverdale and Centerville. Maverik spokesperson Nitro said Norris will visit stations in Santaquin, Provo and Sandy tomorrow.

Fans at all six locations will have the opportunity to meet and have their photos taken with Norris and his wife, Gena O’Kelley. They may also enter a Maverik-sponsored contest to win a custom Chevy truck called Truck Norris. The drawing for the vehicle will take place in September.

One of Norris’ biggest fans came all the way to Logan from Perry. Nine-year-old Max Keller brought a large painting of Norris given to him by a family friend.

“He rides horses, he does martial arts, I like his car,” Keller said. “I like that he is a policeman because I want to be a policeman one day, and I like his movies.”

Hyrum resident David Floyd said he has seen just about every one of Norris’ movies and TV shows.

“If Chuck Norris is in town you go see him,” he said. “Aliens could land on the ground and I’d still rather see Chuck Norris than the aliens.”

A group of Logan High students chanted the actor’s name as they crossed Main Street to meet him. One of those in the group, freshman Bennett Lambert, described the experience.

“You just grow up, like, hearing about Chuck Norris and how awesome he is,” he said, “and to see him in real life, like, it’s cool. Chuck Norris is dope. He’s a beast. He’s the man.”

Lambert’s friend Tre Pitcher took the opportunity to tell his favorite Chuck Norris joke.

“In ‘The Expendables’, he’s like, ‘Man, I got bit by a rattlesnake and after seven long days of agonizing pain the rattlesnake finally died,’” Pitcher said.

Chase Anderson and Talia Pratte made sure to take advantage of the opportunity. Before the couple married seven months ago they would watch a lot of “Walker, Texas Ranger” together.

“It’s kind of fun looking back,” Pratte said, “We’re like, ‘Oh, we watched that when we were dating and fell in love when we’d watch ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ together.'”

Anderson was a ‘Walker’ fan long before he introduced the series to his wife.

“My dad introduced me to the show and I watched it, I mean, almost weekly when I was a little kid,” Anderson said.

CFORCE Water comes from a natural aquifer on Norris’ Lone Wolf Ranch in Navasota, Texas and is bottled at the source.

“Our aquifer is completely sustainable because we live in the floodplain,” Gena O’Kelley said. “So it is always recharging, it will never run out. So we are being very good stewards of the environment. I know that is important to people.”

Like Norris’ endless supply of water, it seemed the love the fans have for him will never run out.
