Man sent to prison for breaking baby’s arm

Jonathan Dunn, 29, accused of abusing a six-month-old baby from North Logan.

LOGAN — A 30-year-old man is headed to prison for breaking the arm of a six-month-old North Logan baby that he was caring for last year.

Court administrators report Jonathan A. Dunn was sentenced to one-to-fifteen-years in prison Monday, when he appeared in 1st District Court. The Ogden man pleaded guilty in January to one count of child abuse, a second-degree felony.

Dunn was arrested in March 2016 after North Park Police reported the baby was taken to a hospital with a broken arm and severe bruising. While treating the child, hospital staff notified agents with Child and Family Services (DCFS) who then called officers.

Police report, Dunn was watching the baby, while visiting the child’s mother in North Logan. He was later released from jail after posting bail.

In a letter from the mother, sent to the court earlier, the baby’s mother described how Dunn abused the defenseless baby and never told her why. She described being scared for her life and said the defendant shouldn’t have any contact with children.

During Monday’s sentencing, Judge Allen also ordered Dunn to pay $870 in fines and gave him credit for time he has already served in jail.
