The Logan chapter of The Well Armed Woman (TWAW) is celebrating its 3rd anniversary on Friday, April 21, with an open house at the Cache Valley Public Shooting Range from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
TWAW is a nonprofit organization that specializes in armed self-defense, gun ownership, gun safety, shooting skills and related products for women shooters. Considered the nation’s premier shooting organization for women, TWAW has 650 chapters in 49 states, with more than 7,000 members nationwide.
Beverly Powell , a certified firearms instructor, said she’s been part of TWAW since Mother’s Day 2008. When her children wanted to learn more about firearms and go shooting, Powell said they all decided to learn together.
“My husband’s totally supportive of this,” she said. “He thinks like I do. There are a lot of women whose husbands have guns in the home. I didn’t even know my husband had guns in the home because he had them locked up and put away, but I think if there is a gun in the home, every responsible adult in that home should know how to use it. I think it’s dangerous to rely on a tool that you don’t know how to use. A carpenter can’t build a cabinet if he doesn’t know how to use the tools.”
Powell invites anyone interested to attend the anniversary party, especially younger women, now that the age to obtain a concealed carry permit in Utah was lowered from 21 to 18 during the 2017 Utah Legislative Session.
The Cache Valley Public Shooting Range is located at 2851 W. 200 N. in Logan.
