Mayor Craig Petersen will not seek second term

LOGAN – Craig Petersen announced he will not run for a second term this fall. The Logan mayor made the announcement on KVNU’s For the People program Wednesday afternoon.

Petersen’s term will end Jan. 7, 2018 with elections taking place this fall. While campaigning for the office in 2013, Petersen said he was only planning on serving one term. He said Wednesday that he will not waiver from that promise.

“It’s been my goal to be open and honest as mayor,” he said.

Petersen said the decision to not run again was not a difficult one.

“It’s a decision I made when I ran for office four years ago,” he said.

Petersen said he hopes many qualified candidates will come forward to run. He said he is most proud of what has been done with beautification of the city, work that has been done downtown and working together with six other cities for the new wastewater treatment facility.
