Sugared drinks and candy leaving Logan Regional Hospital campus

Consistent with Intermountain Healthcare’s mission to help people live the healthiest lives possible all the group’s facilities, including Logan Regional Hospital, will replace sugary beverages and candy with healthier choices on March 1.

“We focus on healthy choices and so we’re going to replace the sugared drinks with with low-sugar or zero-sugar drinks,” said Lance Frazier, communications specialist at Logan Regional.

The recommended daily intake is six teaspoons of sugar for women and children and nine teaspoons for men.

“When you drink a 20 ounce Mtn. Dew you’re getting 19 teaspoons of sugar. Right there you are doubling or tripling the amount of sugar you should be taking in a day.”

Research indicates excessive sugar consumption can contribute to obesity and a host of adverse health conditions

“In Utah and Southern Idaho 114,000 people have pre-diabetes and most of them don’t even know that they have it and that it can lead to type 2 diabetes, heart attack and stroke. It is a serious issue,” said Frazier.
