LOGAN – The ice skating rink at Merlin Olsen Park will not be opening this year.
Usually the city offers $3 rentals and free skating, but the rink requires a snow-packed base. There was plenty of snow this year, but the added rain ruined the chances.
“They started it after the first big snowstorm and then we had all that rain,” Logan City Parks and Recreation Department customer service representative Katie Clark said. “The rain destroyed the base, of course.”
The city stated a year ago that its employees sprayed 70 coats of water on the base, with 15-20 minutes in between to allow it to freeze.
Last year the ice rink opened January 2 and closed in February.
