Hyrum City sponsors 2017 photography contest

Hyrum City hopes to adorn the walls of its new city office building with a collage of photographs taken by Cache Valley residents who have captured the scenic ambiance of the community on camera. Sponsoring a yearlong contest, city leaders have invited participants to submit photos throughout the coming year that represent both Hyrum City’s landscape and the activities that take place in the city each month. One winning photo will be selected from among each month’s submissions. If the photographer is a resident of Hyrum City, he or she will receive a $25 utility bill credit.

“Hyrum City has so much aesthetic beauty,” said Stephanie Fricke, city recorder. “We have the mountains, rivers and Hyrum Dam, and then we have all the fun activities and events that take place throughout the year. We’re really excited to decorate our city office with pictures that represent our community.”

Winning photos each month will be displayed as a growing collection and will be framed in sizes ranging from 8 x 10 to 24 x 36. The pictures may also be featured on the city’s website. Contest entries must be emailed to <a href=”mailto:[email protected]”>[email protected]</a> by the first Sunday of each month, with a submission deadline for pictures representing January on Feb. 5. Submissions must be original, high-resolution photos with a minimum resolution of 5,400 x 7,200 pixels. A resolution of 7,200 x 10,800 is preferred.

“January’s photo could be a snowman, kids having a snowball fight, or a close-up of a snowflake,” said Fricke. “We’ve had 23 inches of fresh, powdery snow, and our mountains provide plenty of scenic opportunities. We are excited to see your photos!”
