White out conditions and a semi truck off the road caused Utah Highway Patrol troopers to close Logan Canyon (US 89) between Beaver Mountain and Garden City Monday afternoon for approximately one hour.
Starting at 3 p.m. the conditions were so bad that crews shut down the road until conditions started to clear up. Even though the canyon summit was re-opened, travel was discouraged.
Skiers and snowboarders already at Beaver Mountain were allowed to leave. Because of the road and wintry conditions Beaver Mountain decided to cancel its night skiing for Monday evening. High winds and heavy snow contributed to white out conditions, beginning at the Franklin Basin area.
Additionally, several slide offs and accidents in Sardine Canyon caused traffic to crawl to a standstill Monday afternoon, particularly northbound. State troopers are encouraging motorists to use alternate routes.
The winter storm brought rain to the valley floor, causing issues with traffic and localized flooding. There were also a few instances of thunder and lightning Monday afternoon.
