Fire damages home in Providence

Fire fighters were called to a house in Providence Thursday morning, after one of the home’s residents smelled smoke and called 911.

According to emergency radio traffic, the caller said smoke was coming from the basement. It continued to increase even after turning off the home’s furnace.

The fire was reported just before 9:00 a.m., near 349 S 100 W.

A Cache County Sheriff’s deputy was the first one to arrive on the scene. He reported the fire was inside a wall, between the garage and the residence.

Smoke and flames continued to spread into the ceiling and attic as fire fighters arrived on the scene.

Crews had the fire extinguished within 20 minutes.
