LOGAN — Search and Rescue teams found two ski resort employees late Tuesday night, seven hours after they were reported missing. Luke Stevenson and Allison Huish were rescued near Peterson Hollow in the Franklin Basin. Both were in good health and neither required medical attention.
A press release from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office said the two skiers had gone on the back side of Beaver Mountain Ski Resort and found themselves in a difficult position to continue down or go back up the mountain.
Earlier, Lt. Brian Locke said employees at the resort called deputies for help after one of the skiers failed to show up for work at 4 p.m. Ski Patrol members told deputies they had searched within the boundary of the resort with no success.
Search and Rescue crews set up a command post in Franklin Basin and were coordinating the search with ski patrol members.
They located tracks and later found Stevenson and Huish trying to climb back up the mountain.
Search and Rescue teams were able to ride snowmobiles into the area and transport the skiers down the mountain. They were taken to a Snow Cat that was able to take them back to safety.
The rescue was finished by around 3:30 a.m. with all the teams returning safely
The press release said crews were thankful for everyone who played a role in the search efforts.
Sgt. Paul Todd reminds everyone going skiing in the backcountry to bring proper equipment, food, water, and avalanche beacons. Also, let people know where you are going and what time you will be back.
