Bus driver suspected of causing three-vehicle accident in Providence

A Cache Valley Transit Bus driver is suspected of causing a three vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon that sent six people to the hospital with minor injuries.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry said the CVTD bus was traveling south on SR-165 when it failed to stop for a red light at 1200 S., near Providence. The bus broadsided a 2003 silver Suburban on the passenger side, pushing the truck into the path of a 2002 Lexus LX SUV.

The accident was reported just after 3 p.m.

Perry said there were two adults, a male driver and female passenger, along with five children riding in the Suburban. All of them were wearing seat belts and car seats. The female passenger and the five children were transported to Logan Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The passengers in the Lexus were not injured.

Perry said there were 11 adult passengers on the bus. None of them were injured and all were transferred to a van to complete their trip.

Traffic was partially blocked for about an hour while the accident was being cleared.

The crash remains under investigation.
