Deputies arrest man accused of downloading child porn

LOGAN — Deputies arrested a 42-year-old man Monday afternoon, accused of accessing child pornography on the internet.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said, Daniel Stapley was booked into jail after investigators received evidence that he was downloading images of child porn. He’s being held on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a minor. Formal charges are pending the investigation.

Deputies served a search warrant to a Smithfield home, where Stapley reportedly lived in his parent’s basement. They seized his smart phone and took him into custody.

Peterson said the evidence against Stapley was received from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), a multi-jurisdictional group that investigates individuals who use the internet to exploit children.

Stapley is expected to be arraigned in 1st District Court within the next week. He is being held on $50,000 bail.

Peterson said none of the images were of local victims.
