LOGAN, Utah – Utah State soccer wrapped up the first weekend of conference competition in a 3-0 home win over Wyoming Sunday afternoon.

Four different players contributed to the scoring for the Aggies Sunday. Senior midfielder Lauren Harmon, junior forward Bailee Hammond and junior forward Wesley Hamblin scored the teams’ three goals, while Hammond and senior forward Jessica Brooksby each added one assist.

With the weekend victories, Utah State opens the Mountain West season with a 2-0 record for the first time since joining the league in 2013. The Aggies are now 6-4-0 on the season, while Wyoming falls to 4-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 in league play.

Overall, Utah State out-shot the Cowgirls, 17-7, including a 10-4 on-goal advantage. Redshirt sophomore Grace McGuire played the full match in the net, earning her third complete shutout of the season while tallying four saves.

The first half was quiet on both ends of the field, as the match became very defensive-minded. Wyoming had a lot of the offensive control through the first 45 minutes, as the Cowgirls took five of their seven shots before the break.

The Aggie offense came alive in the second half, scoring all three goals over a 20-minute span. Harmon put Utah State on the board in the 55th minute of action. Brooksby took a corner kick, arcing the ball into the penalty box. From there, Harmon was able to head it into the net.

Hammond was next to score, striking in the 70th minute on an unassisted shot. She gained control of the ball near the midfield, driving it down through the Wyoming defense and shooting from the middle of the box. Five minutes later, Hamblin got her chance, scoring on a crossed ball from Hammond.

The Aggies continued to control the offense through the final minutes, keeping the ball on their attacking end. As the time wound down, Wyoming was able to get a few last opportunities, but McGuire made the stops to maintain the shutout.

After five-straight home matches, the Aggies return to the road next week, traveling to Colorado. Utah State will play at Air Force on Friday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m., followed by a match at Colorado College on Sunday, Oct. 2, at Noon.
