Man admits to groping girls at local grocery store

LOGAN — A 69-year-old Logan man, Richard L. Taylor has pleaded guilty to groping several girls at a grocery store and has been sentenced.

Taylor appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning, accepting a plea deal from state prosecutors. Under the agreement, he pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual battery, all class-A misdemeanors. He will also have to undergo sex offender therapy and other conditions. As part of the plea in abeyance, state attorneys dropped four additional charges and agreed not to seek a jail sentence.

State attorney Barbara Lachmar told the court, Taylor inappropriately touched the buttocks’ of two female employees while he was at Lee’s Marketplace. The assaults were reported in December 2015. The women claimed similar incidents had occurred on multiple occasions.

Lachmar said prosecutors were pleased that Taylor had already completed a psycho-sexual evaluation and was receiving treatment. She explained that as part of the plea agreement, he is also ordered to write a letter of apology to the victims and to be trespassed from the store.

Judge Brian Cannell agreed to the terms of the agreement while sentencing Taylor, and scheduled a review hearing for a year from now, to insure that the conditions are completed.
