Victim in Tuesday’s farming accident identified

Sheriff’s deputies have released the name of the 33-year-old man who died Tuesday, after getting caught in some farm equipment he was working on, south of Hyrum at the Rosehill Dairy.

Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen said Javier Cruz was an employee of the dairy and driving a tractor, pulling a feeder. As he was working, Cruz reportedly stepped off the tractor and got caught in the power take off (PTO), the drive train that connects the engine to the feeder. He suffered fatal traumatic injuries to his legs and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cruz’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death. Jensen said an investigation of the incident has determined it was a tragic accident.

Chief Deputy Matt Bilodeau said his heart goes out to the family of the victim and the other employees at the dairy. “I mean I feel terrible for him and his family and his co-workers,” he said. “It is traumatic.”

The accident occurred around 5:40 p.m. The dairy is located at 315 East 6600 South.
