If it’s the night after Thanksgiving it’s the night for the opening of The Nutcracker. The Cache Valley Civic Ballet will present its 33rd performance of The Nutcracker starting Friday, November 27th and continuing Saturday and Monday November 28 and 30th with matinees on Friday and Saturday in the Ellen Eccles Theatre.

Founder and artistic director Sandy Emile says while this is the 33rd performance of The Nutcracker by her company, some things change while others stay the same.

“Every year there are new characters, new costumes, new decorations, new people playing parts, choreography changes,” Emile says. “But the essence of Nutcracker, the spirit of Nutcracker, a little girl receiving her nutcracker for the first time, learning about the magic of the season and the holiday, the love of families getting together to celebrate the holiday, that’s all still the same.”

Emile says tickets for the Sugar Plum Tea are available for the matinee performances. Two professional guest artists from Ballet West will join the cast this year.
