Tourism numbers for 2015 are up for Cache Valley

This last year has been the busiest year ever for the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau according to Executive Director Julie Hollist. In a report to the Cache County Council Tuesday, Hollist acknowledged that several major events, such as the Tour of Utah, contributed but she said people came in large numbers all year around.

She said August was the best month for hotel rooms with an 84.8 percent occupancy rate.

“Our transient room tax collection is looking great,” Hollist exclaimed. “Last year we collected $440,000. That’s a 3% tax that is placed on every hotel room that comes back to fund our office.

“We are on target to be quite a bit above that. Our revenue per available room is higher this year than it has been in the past as well. That means our hotels are charging more per night than they have in the past.”

Hollist said that is partly because of a rebound in the economy along with supply and demand.
