Logan Downtown Alliance proposes a move for the Logan Library

The Logan Downtown Alliance has sent a letter to both Logan Mayor Craig Petersen and Cache County Executive Craig Buttars which Downtown Manager Gay Saxton says outlines a way to maintain and develop downtown Logan while enhancing the stability and vibrancy that exists at the present time.

Signed by over a dozen business leaders, the letter suggests that it would be feasible to move the Logan Library in order to further develop the block between 200 North and 300 North on Main Street.

The letter says, “the library is the sole impediment in developing that land because it is located in the center of the block.”

The proposal is to move the library onto county-owned land at the corner of 100 North and 100 West and for Logan City to partner with Cache County to provide a premium library that is open to both city and county residents.

“It is the beginning point of a conversation,” Saxton says. “It is a proposal to share ideas and brainstorm what is possible.

“Now it is really in the hands of the city and the county to see if that is a viable solution in their eyes.”

Saxton says the Downtown Alliance believes the proposal would benefit both Logan City and Cache County. Part of the proposal calls for the county to donate the land while Logan City would be responsible for construction and maintenance of the new library. Making it a Cache County library would greatly reduce the cost that county residents currently have to pay to access what the Logan Library currently offers.

Other portions of the proposal suggest that the new building could have food services and meeting spaces that could appeal to university and high school students. The Downtown Alliance also proposes that the new library could house a museum space.
