Four USU football players and former softball player hospitalized after accident in Trenton

TRENTON – A Chevy Tahoe carrying USU football players was involved in an accident with a semi at the intersection of State Road 142 and State Road 23 in Trenton Friday afternoon.

According to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry, USU football players Adewale Adeoye, Edmund Faimalo, John Taylor and Travis Seefeldt were all injured in the crash. Former USU softball player Sarah Vasquez was also in the Tahoe. All had to be extricated from the vehicle. The driver of the Tahoe, Seefeldt, was airlifted to Ogden Regional and the others were transported to Cache Valley hospitals. Vasquez was later airlifted to McKay-Dee Hospital from Logan Regional Hospital.

“We will do everything we can to help all the student-athletes involved in today’s car accident and will give them all the love and support they need,” said USU head football coach Matt Wells in prepared statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved.”

Perry said it appeared the driver thought the intersection was a four-way stop and proceeded east through the intersection. The driver of the southbound semi tried to swerve to miss the car, but T-boned the driver’s-side door.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the student-athletes and their family members during this trying time and we are hopeful that all will make a speedy recovery,” said USU Interim Athletics Director Jana Doggett in a statement.

There were also two males in the semi, but neither was hospitalized. According to Perry, all passengers in the Tahoe remain in serious condition.
