Housley updates Logan City Council on animal restrictions

What kind of regulations does Logan City have when it comes to animals in residential areas? City Attorney Kymber Housley presented a report on animal restrictions to members of the municipal council last week.

“We regulate animals under Chapter 6 of our Logan Municipal Code,” Housley explained. “We do regulate all animals in the sense that we do not allow them to leave the property.

“Any animal running at large is a violation. They can leave the property but they have to be on leash or under control of the owner.”

But Housley said the growing concern is how Logan City regulates and limits the types of animals or number of animals a person can own.

“The only restrictions we have on the number of animals is with dogs and cats,” he continued. “You can have three of each or a total combination of four dogs and cats.”

Housley said there are also state and federal regulations that prevent ownership of certain types of animals. He said the most common complaints regarding animals are nuisance and noise factors.
