LOGAN — A 74-year-old Logan man was uninjured after the plane he was flying, crash landed in a hay field near Newton Saturday morning

Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen said John Kerr was flying a Single Wing Kit Fox Classic 1 when he experienced problems while flying over the Trenton area. He was able to radio other planes in the area, telling them he was going to try returning to the Logan Cache Airport.

Kerr told deputies the engine began to sputter and later seized as he was turning back toward Logan. When the engine quit, the plane started to descend quickly.

Kerr attempted to make an emergency landing in a hay field near 4800 West Highway 218.

Jensen said the plane sustained significant damage to the landing gear and front end.

Emergency medical units and fire crews were originally called to the accident. First responders reported Kerr was okay and out of the aircraft when they arrived on scene.

Jensen said the FAA and the NTSB has been notified of the accident and will investigate.
