Possible plea for Logan man accused of raping teenage girl

Michael Getz, 40, arrested on four initial offenses of sexual abuse of a child and sodomy of a child, both first-degree felonies along with dealing harmful material to a minor, a third-degree felony and lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor.

LOGAN — A plea agreement is in the works for a 40-year-old man who was arrested in January, accused of sexually abusing a teenage girl.

Michael Getz appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. His defense attorney told the court, prosecutors had just made an offer but because of the seriousness of the charges, they wished to have a week’s time to consider it.

Getz is charged with one count of sodomy on a child and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies. He’s also been charged with dealing in materials harmful to a minor, a third-degree felony and lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor.

At the time of his arrest, Logan City Police Captain Tyson Budge said Getz allegedly abused a 13-year-old girl multiple times during the previous year. Police were contacted after the girl reported the abuse to her mother.

After investigating, officers telephoned Getz, who confessed and turned himself in. He’s being held in the Cache County Jail on a $100,000 bail.

Getz has been ordered to appear again in court, February 24 and may plead guilty then.
