CVTD asking Utah legislature to provide more transportation funding

Two new members were welcomed at Wednesday’s meeting of the Cache Valley Transit District’s board of directors. They are Craig Wright and Jeanie Simmonds, who will be a representative of Logan City.

Resignations were accepted for Mark Daines and Mike Arnold who have both served on the board for several years.

CVTD CEO Todd Beutler says members of the board voted to support a resolution requesting the Utah legislature to provide money for transportation agencies during their current session. He says aging infrastructure needs to be replaced and there are other problems.

“I know the cities are dealing with local roads and those are always an issue,” Beutler says. “More and more people are continuing to use public transit, so there is funding to meet that need.

“Transportation is a big issue throughout the state. Doing that is something that is probably needed. I think you’re seeing the cities and other entities that are providing those transportation options are realizing that something needs to be done.”

He says the vote was unanimous.
