In January, Craig Buttars will assume the position of Cache County Executive. And in so doing, he will resign and vacate his position on the Cache County Council. Because Buttars was an elected Republican for the council seat for the North District, the Cache County Republican Party is responsible for filling his seat.
The Cache County Republican Party has set a notification deadline for those wishing to fill the seat. According to a Cache GOP press release, the deadline has been set for 5 p.m. December 26, 2014, to notify Cache County Republican Chair Danny Brownell.
Candidates need to be registered Republicans and live in the North District. The precincts in that district include Amalga, Benson, Clarkston, Cornish, Cove, Lewiston 1 & 2, Newton, Trenton, Richmond 1 & 2, and Smithfield 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 (Smithfield precincts 4 and 5 are not included).
Both Central Committee Members and County Delegates from those precincts will meet on December 30 to nominate a candidate for the seat. That name will then be submitted to the Cache County Council for appointment. This is an interim position which will be up for regular election in 2016.
