The season of viewing those beautiful Rocky Mountain Elk at Hardware Ranch arrives this weekend but unless the cold and/or snow arrive it may be hard to see what Ranch Manager Brad Hunt calls that, “celebrity species.”

Hunt says you don’t have to have elk to have an exciting time at Elk Festival, held Saturday, December 13th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

”We’ll have a variety of activities there for kids, which are all free,” Hunt explains. “We have fish printing. We have backyard birding where they get to build their own backyard bird feeder which they can hang up and watch the different wild birds, song birds come and eat off of that bird feeder.

”We have the opportunity for them to build ornament balls to hang on their Christmas tree.”

Hunt says if weather cooperates you can also ride a horse-drawn sleigh or wagon through the meadow at Hardware Ranch. The official opening is Friday, December 12th. Hardware Ranch is located at the top of Blacksmith Fork Canyon east of Hyrum.
