Logan man pleads guilty in child sex abuse case

Daniel Rivera-Arceo, 60, arrested and charged with sodomy on a child, aggravated sexual abuse of a child and attempted sexual abuse of a child, all are first-degree felonies. He also faces two additional charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a child from another case.

LOGAN — A 60-year-old man has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a child and could be sentenced to prison.

Daniel Rivera-Arceo appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday, accepting a plea deal. Under the agreement, he pleaded guilty to two counts of sex abuse of a child, amended from first degree to second-degree felonies.

Prosecutors told the court, Rivera-Arceo befriended a woman and her daughter through his church. While visiting their home, he was caught touching the girl under a blanket. The girl later told investigators she had been molested by him 10-to-12 times. He was arrested in October and is currently being held in the Cache County Jail on an immigration hold.

In November Rivera-Arceo waived his right to a preliminary hearing. He’s scheduled to be sentenced January 20.
